My tenant called and complained about a leaking faucet and the closet door not opening. I called Payless Handyman to see if he could take a look at it. Payless Handyman gave me a “sight unseen” quote which was rather high, but I needed this done so I went for it. He arrived and called me to inform me of what needed to be changed. Of course it was more work than I thought, but the Payless Handyman took his time to explain why I needed all the extras. After the work was done, my tenant was happier than ever with the work.
The bottom line is this. Payless Handyman is not cheap. However, you get what you pay for in terms of workmanship and customer service. They are a really easy company to work with and offer some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. After the job he told me that if I ever have any questions (even if it is regarding a DIY job), to give him a call. I am going to call him for all of my handyman needs and I recommend that those who are in search of a high quality handyman do the same.

Les was one of the most informative & genuine men I have ever had the pleasure to have come to my home in a time of need. Our washing machine & dishwasher were draining all over our garage floor, this was a nightmare for us. Our 22 year old son’s (he passed away quite tragically a few years ago) belongings are stored in the garage & were at risk of being destroyed. I found “Payless Handyman” on here and called, Les the owner answered & was fortunately able (because he’s in the middle of a large job, however he had a break) to come by at that time. He noticed that my water heater was leaking & told me that those types of pipes tend to do that., he also told me that my water heater should have had a drip pan installed under it, as a result the wood platform is wet, it would have cost $15. (Note to self: ALWAYS use Angie’s List!). Next the drain: he snaked it, but the clog was farther out than the 20-feet his snake would go. He cleaned everything up and when I asked him how much his charge would be, he said, “nothing.” Wow! And he gave me a great referral to a plumber to clean the drain & told me exactly what to to tell them when they came out. Les called me later to set up a time to resolve the water heater problem. Payless Handyman is a Godsend to this older disabled woman whose husband is never home long enough to do anything, and my 2 girls & I are in definite need of a good, reliable & trustworthy handyman that runs his business with integrity.

He assessed the problem with my water heater, that when it was installed, the over-priced individual (NOT an “Angie’s List” provovider), did not put a $15.00 drip pan under the water heater & the type of tubing he used had was not the best to use & therefor had cracked & was leaking. That is an issue that will require another visit. He then snaked the clean-out for my kitchen with a 20-foot snake, after seeing that it didn’t resolve the issue, he referred me to a plumber.

The first time we used them was summer 2011. They built a screened in patio for our home. They did such a good job that we used them for a kitchen remodel in the Fall of 2011. They put in new countertops, a new backsplash and even discovered a previous hazard created by the past owners of our home and corrected it. They even paid for a new slab of granite out of their own pocket because the orginal cut on the granite was incorrect and they didn’t want it to look bad.they most recently installed slip resistant tile and remodeled my bathroom so that it is handicap accessible. They also put in a new shower, tore down a wall, installed a double hung window and put in a new door.

We had a fabulous experience with this remodel! There were no “short cuts” with this remodel! Every morning, Les would go over what projects that Skyler and he were going to accomplish that day and then in the afternoon, Les would recap what had been completed. We always felt like we were kept “in the loop” as to what was going on. When the kitchen was gutted, the team was able to save our old cabinets and they were repurposed. In addition, our Handyman Team were able to keep the dust down, and so we were able to stay in the house. We found out that there was a lot of engineering that goes into hanging cabinets, and the Payless Team were very precise with their measurements, and all the cabinets were installed to perfection. The same was true for the countertops, and tile. Payless Handyman is truly commitment to excellence in all aspects of this remodel. The job was completed in a timely manner and came in under budget. We would definitely recommend the Payless Handyman Team to people who are looking for contractors who are high performing, clean and careful, personable, able to communicate, and have and excellent work ethic. Les responded immediately to my Angie’s List inquiry and came promptly to provide my estimate. The project was completed on-time and on-budget with exceptional skill and attention to detail. The gate was not easy to do. Les provided suggestions and used creativity to get my goal accomplished. Despite the fact that he had to return more than one time to complete the installation, he did not over charge me or lower the quality of his work. I have a brother who is a master cabinet maker of some renown on the east coast. This is mentioned this only to say that I have a good sense of what comprises quality workmanship. So, do I recommend Payles Handyman? ABSOLUTELY!!
I called Payless Handyman after an attempt to mount our new 60 in TV above our fireplace. Les called me right back within minutes of leaving a message. He was in my area buying supplies for another job he was working on, so he was nice enough to come right over. Thank God he did, because his professional advice was a blessing. He gave us a wealth of information on the “right” way to mount the TV over the fireplace and very important safety facts that we had not even considered. On his way out we asked him about a cable TV connection that we were having problems with and he actually was nice enough to fix it free of charge! We were really impressed and thankful for his willingness to help expecting no monetary compensation. Lets face it, you just don’t see that often these days.
We felt his quote was fair and that Les would get the job done the “right” way, so we booked them for the installation. I’m happy to say that I’m extremely happy with their work. They did a very professional job! There are no wires showing and they left nothing more for us to do. Usually, holes are left in your wall for you to figure out how to repair, but Les “completed” the entire job, and that included repairing the walls too. He even touched up other places on my walls that had nothing to do with the installation of the TV.
We had another situation with our dish washer that we just couldn’t figure out what went wrong with our installation. We called Les hoping he would be able to shed some light on the situation. Again, Les was kind enough to come over the next day and get to the bottom of what the issue was. It took time to solve the problem (a faulty new dishwasher) but he wanted not monetary compensation for his time, advice or help.
So, do I recommend Payles Handyman? ABSOLUTELY!!

This was restoration of kitchen, living room, dining room, family room and laundry room. My kitchen had to be completely redone. Instead of carpeting I choose to use tile that looks like wood. New cabinets and solid granite counter tops. Fireplace slate hearth was replaced with granite. Les and Sons did the greatest job. They were exceptional at detail. I have the most beautiful kitchen, family,living and dining rooms. It should be in Sunset magazine. Les did more, granite on kitchen window sil, granite on back side of cooktop hood. Pantry is amazing with build in lazy susan. There are just so many little things Les did that now makes this house very special. Thank you Les and Sons.

I called on a Saturday morning when I discovered one of the water lines to the water heater was spraying water all over the garage. I called several plumbers a few numbers disconnected one didn’t answer and then I found Payless. He told me how to shut the water off but our valves were really hard to turn, on his way to another job be stopped by to turn the water off for us and instructed us on what to do next and didnt charge us a dime, even after my husband told him we would do the repair ourselves. There aren’t many out there that would do that. After speaking with my husband we decided to let them make the repair. A few hours later he came back repaired the water line and we were good to go. I think the pricing is reasonable and the service is outstanding. I would definitely recommend and will be calling again when I need repairs!

Ever see a garage and cringe from the exposed beams and just how dingy it looks due to being unfinished? Yeah, that was my garage! Now it is bright and cheery (due to the sunny yellow paint I picked), but most of all it looks great because it is finished and actually has walls! Les, the owner, and his sons came on Wednesday the 25th and were totally done with my garage and painting of my exterior trim on my house by Sunday the 29th. Extremely professional all the way through the process, and it was actually his professionalism that made me decide to go with his company versus others we received quotes from. Was very informative, explained the different texture options and thus price options and was still willing to negotiate prices with me before starting the work. First day I came home and was shocked I had walls, they literally got the garage enclosed in a few hours! As I was walking into my front door, I realized that his crew actually filled in the gaps in the wood on the trim, he was making sure it wouldn’t be just scraped and painted but look good! Very impressed! Next day I didn’t see too much difference, but him explaining the process ahead of time, I knew not too since they needed to do the plaster in stages. Third day, the walls were textured and the trim was starting to get some paint, was really looking good! Fourth day, the garage was painted and the trim was totally done, love how nice it came out, big difference from what it was before! Fifth and final day, the garage paint was finished off and Les’ son even helped me to move appliances back in place and then swept up. They didn’t leave any mess behind, and the work overall is just stunning. I’d recommend them in a heartbeat!

I called Payless Handyman on a Tuesday morning.
I called Payless Handyman on a Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon Les was there taking a look at my door and window. By Saturday afternoon the door was replaced and the window was fixed just as promised. Home Depot told me the door was a special order and would take three weeks to get. Les had it in three days at a lower price. The window springs are not sold at local stores and they had to go to Los Angeles to get them. They were able to save me countless hours and money just trying to locate the replacement springs. I definitely plan on using Payless Handyman for future projects.

We have used Payless Handyman now 3 times. I would refer Les and his team to anyone. I like that Les is honest, he is transparent with his pricing and what is included. We had a leaky bathtub repaired, tile cleaned, grouted and sealed and Les painted and repaired one of our bedrooms. He is extremely professional and expects his team to be extremely professional which is a big plus for me. I like when a contractor is on time and completes a job within the time frame communicated.

Les and his crew were very punctual throughout the entire restoration. A detailed list of repairs were given to me prior to the start of the job. I was given approximate times for the jobs to better schedule my day. I was able to schedule my days accordingly because Les was able to give me durations for each day. What Les Stated at the beginning of the work is what was done. No hidden surprises. There was great pride in the work that was performed. The work was clean and after the work day was complete, Les and his crew made sure the area was left clean. Very professional and talented team. I will definitely use Les again. One thing that I found very respectful is that when Les and his crew came in to the house, they would remove their shoes at the door so to not dirty my floors. This was awesome. Less called me and explained that they were really busy! I told him that I had huge boxes of unassembled furniture staring me in the face laying on my floor. He told me that the only day he could make it was this upcoming Wednesday. I told him thank you and got off the phone. Moments later, Les called me back and told me that he could feel my agony… My 24 year old daughter is autistic and was really uncomfortable with all the disorder in our home. Les explained to me that he had a worker who could come early this morning to put together the furniture! A nice young guy name Chad was at my door first thing this morning! He put all my furniture together as if it were no big deal!!! He knew exactly what he was doing and was very professional! Great experience! Les is friendly, courteous and professional. He didn’t tire of our endless questions and his attention to detail is amazing! He went to at least 6 flooring stores to find a match to our existing laminate floor. We were always told what he was going to do and when. Also, if he needed anything (color selection for paint) etc., we were told well in advance. Lastly, his estimates we spot on both in regard to cost and time. Would I use their services again? Absolutely!

I had a problem with a set of lights that suddenly would no longer turn on. I called Les and before coming over he had me walk through a couple of trouble shooting tasks. This helped me to isolate the problem to the actual wall switch. This surprised us both, as the house is only 6 years old and light switches don’t typically malfunction. Les asked me if I thought I was capable of replacing the switch myself. I told him that I had done it before and could probably do it this time without burning the place down. He told me no charge and that he was happy that he could help me save the cost of his minimum charge for a house call.

Payless Handyman was very responsive. They replied to my request for a quote right away, and were available to begin work exactly when I needed them. They always showed up on time and thoroughly explained everything that they were doing. The people who came to work at our home were all very courteous and professional. We were preparing our home for sale and they did a lot of different small jobs within the timeline we needed them to. If I noticed something that didn’t look quite right, they corrected it immediately. I thought their prices were a bit high for some of the smaller projects, but there is no question that their work was very high-quality.

Les and his team were wonderful! I had been trying to schedule some repair work at my house as I was putting it on the market for sale. No one was available, until I called Payless, and I’m glad I did! Les was very helpful as we talked through the needed work. His estimate was higher than I had hoped to pay, but it was in the ballpark and I really needed to have the work done. They came out as scheduled and did everything they could to complete the work in the amount if time I had before it went on the market. They kept me informed at all steps in the project, and made me feel like their #1 customer. I had a lot of different things that needed to be done (electrical, tile repair, painting, refinishing cabinets), and they did them all and did them well. These guys are great! Les and his son are really conscientious tradesmen and they can fix anything. Found them on Yelp. Spoke to Les who was very friendly and knowledgeable. I needed help with repair of water coming out of a wall in the men’s bathroom in a commercial building. Les went out to the site and gave me his assessment of what the problem was, and given the age and decomposition of the waste lines where the water appeared to be coming from (it was a very old building), what the range in cost to repair would be, depending on whether the waste lines were salvageable, I authorized him to proceed based on the worst-case scenario. As he got into the repair, the waste lines were not is as bad a shape as thought, and he called me right away to tell me the “good news” and that the cost of repair was revised down. Les is knowledgeable, honest, fast, and trustworthy. He will be the one I go to whenever I have a problem.

They replaced my old dishwasher and installed a new one without removing any tiles in my floor. Instead they removed a few tiles from the countertop which allowed the dishwasher to be removed. Removing the travertine would have cost a lot more and potentially would have required extensive repair to my kitchen floor. I really appreciated the time they took to explain all of my options.

We are totally happy with the work performed by Les and his help. I called him to see if he would install a replacement bed control for my father-in-law. I live 400 miles away from my father-in-law so I was never on site. There were wiring issues to overcome since the replacement control was different than the original control. Les made two trips to complete the job after he acquired the necessary direction from the vendor. My father-in-law is able to sleep peacefully now that the bed is functional again. As this was a small fast fix we agreed he would do this job soon. Several days later I arrived home to see the gate was worked on. While it wasn’t as aligned as we hoped for it was meeting much better and locking much more securely. This was what we needed to keep our pet in and make it workable for our Dad. When Les came by for his check he explained that when it’s perfectly aligned the gate can’t be opened all the way, due to the slight slope of the yard. Remembering the way we open it to drive in and out he knew that wouldn’t do but adjusted it to be more secure. I am a happy customer.

Our place came with a chain link fenced front yard. The gate has ‘settled’ over time and also 1 post was lightly bumped by a car in the past, I believe. The gate was barely meeting and a strong gust of wind or our dog could open it, if it wasn’t shut just so. I now have an elderly relative living with us and over time we found he was failing at gate locking, causing several pet chases. I hired Payless to essentially re-do the work of a previous handyman. Les and his sons did fantastic work that included almost 500 feet of baseboards, new door and door frame, tile and grout repair, and a few other misc tasks. The quality of work was stellar. I am very pleased with their attention to detail. Les is a great guy, personal, professional, and honest. On several occasions, he recommended less expensive alternatives than what I requested. His prices were very competitive and fair, especially when factoring in the quality of work. I will use them every opportunity I can.
