Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
Make additional Income, add value and tax deductions
ADUs or (Additional Dwelling Unit) are a secondary dwelling unit with complete independent living facilities for one or more persons. Up to 1200 Sq. ft of additional space can be added to your home or property with an ADU (Additional Dwelling Unit). They are an innovative, affordable, effective option to increase the value and space of your home. Today ADUs are known by different names: granny unit, granny flat, in-law unit, in-law cottage, mother-in-law apartment, sidekick home, laneway home, backyard guesthouse, backyard cottage or secondary dwelling unit. ADUs are affordable in California as they do not require paying for land, major new infrastructure, structured parking, or elevators. The main benefit is they can provide an additional source of income for homeowners.
Multi- Family ADUs
New ADU Law for Multi-Family Buildings Launched in Jan 2020
The first time, the new ADU laws launched in January 2020 allow units to be added ADUs and JADUs to your existing multifamily buildings. All Cities in California must permit these types of units in multifamily buildings without applying any local development standards.
What is JADU?
A Junior ADU (or JADU) is a new category of dwelling units created by the State of California. The main difference is that a JADU is not required to have a dedicated bathroom.
